SUMMARY:

AFTER OTHELLO, is an original, devilishly dark comedy based upon Shakespeare's most famous tragedy (The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice) as told by his least famous character, THE CLOWN.

AFTER OTHELLO follows the unemployed, hungover, and deeply bitter, CLOWN, as he endeavors to uncover the truth behind the motives, and the murders, in Shakespeare's controversial play, while questioning our notions of jealousy, betrayal, prejudice, complicity, and the nature of evil.

PREMISE:

Producers have been cutting the role of THE CLOWN from productions of Shakespeare’s Othello for so long that he has been forgotten from the minds of contemporary audiences. This has left him jobless, with an inferiority complex, an alcohol problem, and on the verge of an existential crisis. However, he has a story to tell about what really happened to The Moor of Venice, because THE CLOWN was there, and Shakespeare was not.
